Alliance Lately: Issue No. 73

The month of March had plenty of new films released both in theaters and on streaming platforms and Minnesota film critics kept up with all of them.

Members of the MNFCA reviewed bigger releases including “Shazam: Fury of the Gods” and “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” as well as smaller dramas such as “The Lost King” and “A Good Person.” Check out what the Alliance has been up to lately.

Joe Botten

At his site, Botten reviewed a mix of new releases including “Luther: The Fallen Sun,” “Swallowed,” “Jesus Revolution,” “Boston Strangler,” “Moving On” and “Back to the Drive-In.”

He also wrote reviews on “John Wick: Chapter 4,” “Malum,” “Inviaggio: The Travels of Pope Francis,” “Summoning Sylvia,” “Rye Lake,” “Enys Men,” “Murder Mystery 2,” “A Thousand and One,” “Living with Chucky,” “Air” and the “Super Mario Bros. Movie.”

Additionally, he wrote two articles about South by Southwest: Part 1 and Part 2.

Eli Brau

For A Cinephile’s Corner, Brau wrote about 1976’s “Rocky,” 1996’s “Scream,” 1937’s “Grand Illusion,” 1996’s “The Daytrippers,” 1997’s “Good Will Hunting” and 2007’s “Assassination of Jesse James.”

Brian Eggert

At Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed new releases “65,” “Inside,” “Boston Strangler,” “John Wick: Chapter 4,” “Missing,” “The Lost King,” “A Good Person,” “Tetris,” “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” “Rye Lane,” “A Thousand and One,” “Children of the Corn” and “Air.”

He also wrote about 1935’s “Captain Blood,” 1939’s “Confessions of a Nazi Spy” and 1948’s “Force of Evil.”

Hunter Friesen

At the Cinema Dispatch, Friesen reviewed new pictures “Inside,” “John Wick: Chapter 4,” “Shazam: Fury of the Gods,” “Enys Men,” “The Lost King,” “A Good Person,” “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” “Tetris,” “A Thousand and One,” “Murder Mystery 2,” “Air” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”

He also made a list of great Irish filmmakers for St. Patrick’s Day.

Joseph Froemming

For his review series Joe-Down, Froemming wrote about 1991’s action comedy “Hudson Hawk.”

Jay Gabler

At the Duluth News Tribune, Gabler wrote a profile on actress Bailey Stender, who’s originally from the Twin Ports community. The actress most recently appeared in 2022’s film “Merry Kiss Cam” and the television series “Wolf Pack.”

Kyle Goethe and Nicholas Palodichuk

For their series Kyle and Nick on Film, Goethe and Palodichuk discussed “Zero Effect” and “Twilight” from 1998, as well as 1956’s “The Searchers, 2012’s “The Hunt” and 2022’s “The Pez Outlaw.”

Paul McGuire Grimes

Grimes reviewed “Shazam: Fury of the Gods,” “John Wick: Chapter 4,” “A Good Person,” “Air” and “Murder Mystery 2” for his series Paul’s Trip to the Movies. He also appeared on Twin Cities Live on March 10, 17 and 24.

Matt Hambidge

At News From the Couch, Hambidge reviewed new films “Scream VI,” “Shazam: Fury of the Gods,” “Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game,” “John Wick: Chapter 4,” “Tetris,” “Air” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”

Danny Haslach

Haslach’s podcast had a recent episode focused on the sports movie genre.

Frank Lee

Lee wrote about “Shazam: Fury of the Gods,” “Creed III” and “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” for Forum Communications publications.

Matthew Liedke

At his site, Liedke reviewed “Shazam: Fury of the Gods,” “John Wick: Chapter 4” and “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.”

Ruth Maramis

At FlixChatter, Maramis reviewed new pictures “65,” “Liaison,” “Shazam: Fury of the Gods,” “John Wick: Chapter 4,” “The Lost King,” “Tetris,” “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” and “Murder Mystery 2.” She also wrote her reactions on the 2023 Academy Awards ceremony.

Mark McPherson

For his site, McPherson reviewed the new horror sequel “Scream VI,”  “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” He also reviewed “John Wick: Chapter 4” for Twin Cities Geek and produced a video review on the drama “Eo.”

Frank Stanko

At the Wahpeton Daily News, Stanko reviewed the sports drama “Creed III.”
