‘Oppenheimer’ wins seven MNFCA awards, including Best Picture

“Oppenheimer” was the big winner of this year’s Minnesota Film Critics Alliance Awards, earning seven victories in total, including Best Picture.

The historical film by director Christopher Nolan had been nominated in 13 categories, the most by any film in MNFCA history. Also with a strong showing with this year’s awards was “Barbie,” which earned three wins, including Best Ensemble.

‘Oppenheimer’ earns 13 MNFCA Award nominations

Christopher Nolan’s biopic “Oppenheimer” earned nominations in 13 of the 16 categories for the 2024 MNFCA Awards.

The 2023 historical film received nominations for Best Picture and Best Director, as well as several technical and acting categories. The 13 nominations is the most for any film in the history of the MNFCA.

‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ wins 5 MNFCA awards including Best Picture

The multi-universe dramatic comedy “Everything Everywhere All At Once” was the big winner in the 2023 Minnesota Film Critics Alliance Awards.

The film earned five awards from the MNFCA, including the prize of Best Picture. The only other film winning more than one award this year was “The Batman,” taking Best Music and Best Cinematography.

The rest of the wins were spread out among several of 2022’s top films. For example, “The Banshees of Inisherin” earned Best Screenplay and “Women Talking” won Best Ensemble.

‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ leads MNFCA noms with 11

“Everything Everywhere All At Once” earned the most nominations for the 2023 Minnesota Film Critics Alliance Awards with 11.

This included selections for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay. Right behind “Everything Everywhere All At Once” was “The Banshees of Inisherin” with 10 nominations, which also received nods in Picture, Director and Screenplay.

“Tár” also had a strong showing with seven nominations, followed by “The Batman with six. Others receiving several nominations were “Elvis” and “Women Talking, with both films earning five.

The award winners will be announced Saturday, February 25.

Minnesota Film Critics Alliance gives top award to ‘Power of the Dog’

For just over two weeks, members of the Minnesota Film Critics Alliance were busy voting to determine what the winners of the group’s second annual awards.

In the end, it was “Dune” earning the most wins, scoring awards in five categories. “The Power of the Dog” also had good a good showing, winning three awards including Best Picture.

‘Dune,’ ‘Power of the Dog’ lead MNFCA Noms

The Minnesota Film Critics Alliance completed the nomination process over the last week for its second annual award honors.

Eligible films for this year’s awards included those released from March-December 2021. Movies released from January-February 2021 were made eligible in last year’s awards process because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Many films were submitted across all genres for the 16 award categories. In the end, “Dune” and “The Power of the Dog” tied for the most nominations, with each picture earning 11 selections.

Other movies receiving multiple nominations include “West Side Story” with eight, “Licorice Pizza” with five and “Nightmare Alley” with four.

The award winners will be announced March 6.

‘Nomadland’ wins big prize in inaugural MNFCA Awards

The following are the results of the first ever Minnesota Film Critics Alliance Awards.

The Alliance is a 17-member group and for this year’s awards, 14 participated in nominating and voting on the best of 2020. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, films released into March were eligible, allowing some titles watched in 2021 to be included.

MNFCA Update on Top 10s and Awards

Members of the Minnesota Film Critics Alliance are now compiling their lists for best and worst movies of the year.

When all members have finished compiling these lists, a post linking all the top 10s, with details on each person’s No. 1 movie, will be published. This post is expected to be published in February.
