The MNFCA embraces all forms of content creation about film, including print, blogging, broadcasting, online video, and radio. Join us in celebrating the diverse and vibrant world of cinema in Minnesota!
To be considered for membership within the MNFCA, an individual applicant must meet minimum requirements in order to be brought to a formal vote.
Content Quality
Content related to new releases will be viewed preferably, but it is not a requirement. Content related to classical movies, specific genres, etc., will still be considered. Content may come from any source (print, video, radio/podcast, etc.), but must not be exclusive to social media platforms such as Letterboxd, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and IMDb.
All written reviews must be professionally edited and presented with a minimum of 500 words. Basic rules of grammar and spelling must be evident. All self-published visual and audio (i.e., YouTube, Podcasts, Radio) reviews must be at least 5 minutes in length. Reviews solely consisting of plot summaries or information derived from press releases do not qualify.
Frequency of Output
Members must produce professional content regularly throughout the year, with at least six months of prior work, and publish at least ten reviews annually.
Location
Applicants must reside in Minnesota. While some individuals may live in border communities (Duluth-Superior, Moorhead-Fargo, Hudson, etc.) and thus reside in another state while still reaching a Minnesotan audience, they are encouraged to seek out the critics’ group in their state.
Non-Discrimination
Applicants will not be denied membership based on race, religion, ethnic heritage, gender, sexual orientation, education status, profession or professional affiliation, political affiliation, physical disability, age, veteran status, or language.
