Alliance Lately: Issue No. 76

Memorial Day weekend means the first month of the summer movie season has wrapped up.

New releases ranged from the Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” to the action sequel “Fast X.” Also coming out was the live action “Little Mermaid” from Disney.

Reviewing all of those and more were members of the Minnesota Film Critics Alliance. Find out what they’ve been up to lately.

Joe Botten

At his site, Botten reviewed new releases “The Artifice Girl,” “Crater,” “Book Club: The Next Chapter,” “Fool’s Paradise,” “The Mother,” “Fast X,” “White Men Can’t Jump,” “Master Gardener,” “The Little Mermaid,” “The Wrath of Becky,” “The Starling Girl,” “Blood & Gold,” “You Hurt My Feelings” and “The Boogeyman.”

Eli Brau

For A Cinephile’s Corner, Brau reviewed 2023 movies “Beau is Afraid” and “A Thousand and One.”

Brian Eggert

On Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed new films “BlackBerry,” “Hypnotic,” “Carmen,” “Master Gardener,” “Sisu,” “White Men Can’t Jump” and “You Hurt My Feelings.” He also appeared on Twin Cities NBC affiliate KARE 11 to talk about the most anticipated movies for the summer.

Hunter Friesen

At Cinema Dispatch, Friesen reviewed recent releases “Carmen,” “Master Gardener” and “You Hurt My Feelings.” He also wrote pieces ranking likely contenders for the 2024 Oscars, find part 23-15, part 14-6 and part 5-1. Plus, he wrote about the worst premieres at the Cannes Film Festival.

Kyle Goethe and Nicholas Palodichuk

For their series Kyle and Nick on Film, Goethe and Palodichuk discussed 1933’s “King Kong,” 1953’s “House of Wax,” 1972’s “Cries and Whispers,” 1993’s “Red Rock West,” 1999’s “The Bone Collector” and 2002’s “Gangs of New York.”

Paul McGuire Grimes

For his series Paul’s Trip to the Movies, Grimes reviewed new films “Book Club: The Next Chapter,” “The Mother,” “Fast X,” “The Little Mermaid” and “Master Gardener.”

Danny Haslach

A recent episode from Haslach’s podcast FilmBird covered the new Marvel film “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.”

Frank Lee

For Forum Communications, Lee wrote about new films “Evil Dead Rise” and “Fast X.”

Matthew Liedke
