Alliance Lately: Issue No. 75

The summer movie season is underway with the release of Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and MNFCA has the new film covered.

Several members of the MNFCA published reviews on the third film in the series from the MCU, but that wasn’t all. Minnesota critics also reviewed new releases such as “Sisu,” “Chevalier” and “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret.”

Joe Botten

For his website, Botten reviewed new releases “From Black,” “The Black Demon,” “Sisu,” “Peter Pan and Wendy,” “Polite Society,” “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “What’s Love Got to Do With It?

Eli Brau

On A Cinephile Corner, Brau reviewed recent releases “Rye Lane,” “Scream VI,” “Peter Pan and Wendy,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “How to Blow Up a Pipeline.”

Brian Eggert

At Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed 2023 releases “R.M.N.,” “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” “Beau is Afraid” and “A Life on the Farm.” He also reviewed 1995’s “Clueless,” 1997’s “The Devil’s Advocate” and 2001’s “Millennium Mambo.” He also wrote a list of Top 10 Films with Ambiguous Endings.

Hunter Friesen

For Cinema Dispatch, Friesen reviewed “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” “Big George Foreman” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” He also wrote three pieces ranking films expected to contend for Oscars next year. Find Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.

Jay Gabler

At the Duluth News Tribune, Gabler wrote a tribute piece to “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” ahead of the film’s 40th anniversary later this month.

Kyle Goethe and Nicholas Palodichuk

For their series Kyle and Nick on Film, Goethe and Palodichuk discussed 1983’s “The Big Chill,” 1993’s “Red Rock West,” 1998’s “Gods and Monsters,” 2007’s “Gone Baby Gone” and 2008’s “Be Kind Rewind.”

Paul McGuire Grimes

On his series Paul’s Trip to the Movies, Grimes reviewed “Peter Pan and Wendy,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret.”

Matt Hambidge

At News From the Couch, Hambidge reviewed the new Marvel film “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.”

Danny Haslach

On Haslach’s podcast FilmBird, the new Ari Aster film “Beau is Afraid” was reviewed.

Frank Lee

Lee wrote about new releases “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” “The Covenant” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” for Forum Communications

Matthew Liedke

At his site, Liedke reviewed recent releases “How to Blow Up a Pipeline” and “Chevalier.”

Ruth Maramis

On FlixChatter, Maramis reviewed “Chevalier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “Polite Society.” She also wrote about her favorite scenes from “Dune” when the trailer for the sequel dropped.

Mark McPherson

At his site, McPherson reviewed “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” He also wrote about “Still Human,” a documentary centered on disenfranchised populations in Mumbai and Los Angeles, for Film Inquiry.

Tyler Strandberg

For Cinefied, Strandberg reviewed “The Old Way,” a western starring Nicolas Cage.
