Film festival season is still underway for the MNFCA with more movies under review by members.
Minnesota critics recently reviewed films shown at the Toronto International Film Festival and Fantastic Fest. Many new releases such as “Don’t Worry Darling” and “See How They Run” were also reviewed.
Here’s what the Alliance has been up to lately.
Sean Blanford
Blanford posted another movie review based on what he watched at the Toronto International Film Festival. This time, Blanford wrote about “The Banshees of Irisherin.”
Joe Botten
At his site, Botten reviewed “Blonde,” “The Good House,” “Lou,” “Heathers: The Musical,” “Do Revenge” and “The Silent Twins.” He also wrote about several films seen at Fantastic Fest.
Brian Eggert
For Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed new releases “The Silent Twins,” “Don’t Worry Darling,” “Sidney,” “Fresh,” “Sissy” and “Bros.” He also wrote about 1995’s “Clueless.”
Kelly Florence and Meg Hafdahl
On a recent episode of the Horror Rewind podcast, Florence and Hafdahl discussed the new Ti West film “Pearl” and the thriller “Don’t Worry Darling.”
Hunter Friesen
At the Cinema Dispatch, Friesen reviewed new films “Blonde,” “Don’t Worry Darling” and “See How They Run.” He also wrote an essay about what would have happened had “Raging Bull” beat “Ordinary People” at the Oscars and a new Academy Awards prediction piece based on fall festivals.
Kyle Goethe
For the series Kyle and Nick on Film, Goethe was joined by fellow MNFCA member Nicholas Palodichuk to discuss 1949’s “The Third Man,” 1992’s “Freejack,” 1993’s “Body of Evidence,” 2011’s “Drive,” 2016’s “Terrifier” and the recent horror “The Black Phone.”
Paul McGuire Grimes
For his video series Paul’s Trip to the Movies, Grimes reviewed “Confess Fletch,” “Don’t Worry Darling” “Bros” and “Hocus Pocus 2” and .” He also appeared on Twin Cities Live on Sept. 16 and 23.
Matt Hambidge
On the Cinema Stubs podcast, Hambidge co-hosted an episode about the new horror flick “Pearl.” Another episode focused on new releases “Don’t Worry Darling” and “The Munsters” adaptation.
Danny Haslach
Recent episodes of Haslach’s podcast FilmBird focused on the horror film “Barbarian,” as well as comparing the careers of Brad Pitt and Leonardo Dicaprio.
Eric Houston
For North Metro TV, Houston produced a video about the best villains in the classic “Batman” film and series.
Frank Lee
For the Brainerd Dispatch, Lee wrote about recent releases “See How They Run” and “Barbarian.”
Matthew Liedke
At his site, Liedke reviewed “God’s Country,” “Clerks III,” “Pearl” and “See How They Run.”
Ruth Maramis
On FlixChatter, Maramis reviewed new films “The Woman King,” “Don’t Worry Darling” and “See How They Run,” as well as 2020’s “Greenland.” She also wrote about eight great films by French New Wave director Adieu.
Mark McPherson
At his site, McPherson reviewed “Pearl” and the anime film “Mobile Suit Gundam Cucuruz Doan’s Island.” He also wrote about the horror film “Barbarian” for Film Inquiry.
Nicholas Palodichuk
On the St. Paul Filmcast, Palodichuk spoke with actress/writer Danna Gilbertson and writer/director Andrew Hunt.
Frank Stanko
Continuing his look back at films from 1998, Stanko wrote about the film “Small Soldiers.”
Tyler Strandberg
Strandberg was a guest on the Blind Spot Podcast recently to discuss the Academy Award winning film “Silence of the Lambs.”
