The Alliance Lately: Issue No. 58

“Thor: Love and Thunder” hits theaters tomorrow and some members of the MNFCA have already published their thoughts.

In addition to early reviews on Marvel’s latest entry, Minnesota critics have also reviewed the horror picture “The Black Phone,” the biopic “Elvis,” and much more. Here’s what the Alliance has been up to lately.

Sean Blanford

On Movie Birb, Blanford listed his top 10 of 2022 at the mid-year point.

Joe Botten

At his site, Botten reviewed “Brian and Charlie,” “Lightyear,” “Good Luck to You Leo Grande,” “Gatlopp: Hell of a Game,” “The Black Phone,” “Mr. Malcolm’s List,” “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” “Thor: Love and Thunder” and “Elvis.”

Brian Eggert

For Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed “The Black Phone” while also writing about “The Worst Person in the World” and “The Sadness” from 2021 as well as “Dog Day Afternoon” from 1975.

Kelly Florence and Meg Hafdahl

On the Horror Rewind podcast, Florence and Hafdahl discussed thrillers “The Twin” and “Dashcam.”

Joseph Froemming

For his Joe-Down series, Froemming reviewed 1970’s “M.A.S.H.”

Kyle Goethe and Nicholas Palodichuk

On their series Kyle and Nick on Film, Goethe and Palodichuk discussed “Zombie” and “Alien” from 1979, as well as 1982’s “Conan the Barbarian,” 1996’s “Independence Day,” 1997’s “Con Air” and 2005’s “Sin City.”

They also held a 200 Subscriber special Q&A.

Paul McGuire Grimes

For his series Paul’s Trip to the Movies, Grimes reviewed Marvel’s “Thor: Love and Thunder.” He also appeared on the July 1 episode of Twin Cities Live to discuss recent films and series.

Matt Hambidge

At News From The Couch, Hambidge reviewed “The Man From Toronto,” “Gatlopp: Hell of a Game” and “The Sea Beast.” He also wrote about his top 10 movies at the 2022 mid-way point.

Hambidge was also on the Cinema Stubs podcast recently where he reviewed “Elvis” in one episode and top movies released so far in 2022, as well as 90s film trivia in another.

Danny Haslach

On the FilmBird podcast, Haslach co-hosted episodes about Netflix’s new film “SpiderHead” and the recent released horror “The Black Phone.”

Frank Lee

For the Brainerd Dispatch, Lee wrote about new releases “Elvis” and “The Black Phone.”

Matthew Liedke

At his site, Liedke reviewed recent releases “The Phantom of the Open,” “The Black Phone,” “Cha Cha Real Smooth” and “Elvis.”

Ruth Maramis

On FlixChatter, Maramis reviewed “Cha Cha Real Smooth,” “Mr. Malcolm’s List” and “Elvis.” She also wrote about “E.T” on the film’s 40^th anniversary.

Mark McPherson

At his site, McPherson reviewed “Elvis” and Marvel’s “Thor: Love and Thunder.” He also produced a video on some of the negative commentary received by the film “Turning Red.”
