In addition to announcing the winners of the MNFCA awards, Minnesota critics were also busy the last two weeks reviewing plenty of new releases.
Pixar’s “Turning Red,” the new “Batman” and even some flicks shown at the South by Southwest Film Festival were under review recently. Check out what the Alliance has been up to lately.
Sean Blanford
At his site, Blanford reviewed “The Batman,” “X” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” the latter two having been screened at the South by Southwest Film Festival.
Joe Botten
On his site, Botten reviewed “The Weekend Away,” “Lucy and Desi,” “Fresh,” “Offseason,” “Ultrasound,” “Turning Red,” “The Adam Project” and “The Last Mountain.” He’s also been covering the South by Southwest Film Festival.
Brian Eggert
At Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed new releases “After Yang,” “Fresh,” “Turning Red” and “X.” He also wrote about 1934’s “It Happened One Night,” 1940s “Foreign Correspondent,” 1973’s “The Spirit of the Beehive” and 2021’s “Compartment No. 6.”
Kelly Florence and Meg Hafdahl
On the Horror Rewind podcast, Florence and Hafdahl discussed the 2021 film “Antlers” and the 1977 sci-fi “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.”
Hunter Friesen
At the Northern Iowan, Friesen reviwed the new “Batman” film and ranked the Academy Award nominees for Best Picture. He also hosted a film trivia match on the League of Cinephiles YouTube channel.
Joseph Froemming
For his Joe-Down series, Froemming reviewed “The Batman.”
Kyle Goethe
On the series Kyle and Nick on Film, Goethe and fellow MNFCA member Nicholas Palodichuk discussed the new “Batman” film. They also reviewed 1980’s “Terror Train” and 2005’s “Brick,” as well as 1997 movies “L.A. Confidential,” “Cube” and “Switchback.”
Paul McGuire Grimes
For his Paul’s Trip to the Movies series, Grimes reviewed “Lucy and Desi,” “Turning Red,” “Fresh” and “The Adam Project.” He also appeared on the March 4 episode of Twin Cities Live.
Matt Hambidge
On News From the Couch, Hambidge reviewed “The Batman” and “Fresh.” He also appeared on the Cinema Stubs” podcast to discuss “The Batman,” “Cyrano” and 80s action movies.
Eric Houston
Houston continued his video essay series, King of the Cowboys, this time with a focus on John Wayne movies.
Frank Lee
For the Brainerd Dispatch, Lee wrote about the new “Batman” film.
Matthew Liedke
At his site, Liedke reviewed “The Batman” and “Turning Red.” He also ranked the Batmobiles from “Batman” films.
Ruth Maramis
At FlixChatter, Maramis reviewed “The Batman,” “Turning Red,” “C’Mon C’Mon” and “The Adam Project.” She also ranked all of the live action “Batman” films.
Mark McPherson
On his site, McPherson reviewed Pixar’s “Turning Red” and the new horror film “X.”
